Barton Springs Pool is one of Austin's cultural and environmental jewels. The 3-acre pool is home to the endangered Barton Springs Salamander and according to artist Jennifer Chenoweth' survey, it's the happiest place in Austin. The Barton Springs Conservancy is an organization dedicated to work with key Barton Springs stakeholders to identify and support projects to benefit the Springs. As a junior in high school, I competed with the other students in my Advanced Graphic Design class to design a logo for the organization. My logo is still in use today in modified form.
The icon portion of the logo is a stylized view from the shallow end of the pool, with trees framing the water and the small white cliffs on the right side. In the distance, the Texas State Capitol is included. The text of my design, which has since been updated by the organization, takes inspiration from the hand-painted sign that welcomed visitors to the pool in 2014, when the Consrvancy was formed, seen below.
The Conservancy has modified my original logo since it was adopted in 2015, but the icon remains, and both my original version and the version that's currently in use are registered trademarks of the Conservancy.
